Hapag-Lloyd plans to make Baltimore its first westbound call in the U.S. on its weekly Gulf of Mexico Express from North Europe to U.S. and Mexican Gulf ports.
The call is expected to boost Baltimore’s container throughput by up to 30,000 container a year. The eastbound port rotation of the Gulf of Mexico Express will be: Thamesport, Le Havre, Antwerp, Bremerhaven, Baltimore, Veracruz, Mexico, Altamira, New Orleans and Charleston.
The Port of Baltimore handled a record-number of containers and automobiles in 2011, as both cargos surpassed levels set before the 2009 recession.
