The liner carrier members of the G6 Alliance between Asia and Europe said they will skip four sailings during China’s Golden Week holidays in October.
The skipped sailings are intended to rationalize capacity during a down period in the world’s biggest exporting nation. The move follows a similar one by Maersk Line, which announced earlier this week it would skip five sailings during the holidays.
The G6 carriers – APL, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, MOL, NYK Line, and OOCL – will pull one sailing of their EUM/MED and Loop 7 services during the week of Oct. 1-7. The EUM/MED loop is an Asia-Mediterranean service, while Loop 7 connects primarily to Northern Europe.
On the week of Oct. 8-14, single sailings of the ABX and Loop 3 services will be dropped. The ABX is an Asia-Black Sea loop, while Loop 3 also serves Northern Europe.
