The Port of Singapore reported its container throughput in 2012 was a record 31.6 million 20-foot-equivalent units, increasing 5.7 percent from 29.9 million TEUs in 2011.
Total cargo tonnage handled in 2012 also reached a record high, rising 1.2 percent to 537.6 million metric tons from 531.2 million metric tons the year before.
The advance estimates of Singapore’s port performance were announced by Lui Tuck Yew, Singapore’s Minister for Transport, at the Singapore Maritime Foundation New Year reception.
