Germany's Lufthansa Group says the group flew three per cent more passengers in September compared to last year.
Capacity rose 3.7 per cent and passenger load factor improved 0.6 percentage points.
Passenger numbers were higher in North and South America, Europe and Asia Pacific, while it dropped in the Middle East/Africa region.
The group's Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, including Germanwings, reported 4.6 per cent growth in passengers flown. Swiss Air reported a 1.4 per cent decrease, while total number of passengers flown dropped 1.3 per cent at Austrian Airlines.
The group's volume of freight and mail carried declined 0.6 per cent to 163,000 tonnes and overall cargo load factor declined 1.6 percentage points to 67.0 per cent.
