Hanjin Shipping said Thursday it is upgrading one of the vessels used in its FEX (Far East Europe Express) service.
The Hanjin Chongqing, which was christened at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan City, is the last in a series of eight 6,500-TEU vessels ordered back in 2004 and 2005, the Korean carrier said.
Hanjin said the new ship will replace the existing 5,500-TEU ship currently deployed in the FEX service.
"As a result, all vessels running in the service will have been upgraded from 5,500 TEUs to 6,500 TEUs," the carrier said in a statement. "The company expects that this additional supply of vessel space will help stabilize the transportation of its customers’ cargos."
