Pirates board CMA CGM cruise ship

4/8/2008 10:20:33 AM

Pirates have boarded a luxury sailing cruise ship owned by Compagnie Des IIles du Ponant, a subsidiary of France's CMA CGM, off the northern coast of Somalia.

The vessel, Le Ponant, is 88 meters long and can carry up to 64 passengers. It was sailing on its way back from the Seychelles to the Mediterranean, with 30 crewmembers and no passengers, when it was attacked in the Gulf of Aden.

CMA CGM said it is collaborating closely with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will not communicate further to avoid endangering the lives of the crewmembers.
