China, Japan, Russia and South Korea have signed an agreement to set up an 800-nautical-mile joint shipping route around the Sea of Japan, Xinhua reported Friday.
The service, due to undergo a trial run next month, would link Huichun, a key Chinese port on the Sea of Japan, to Niigata in Japan, the Russian port of Zarubino and the South Korean port of Sokcho, the report said.
No details about which lines might operate vessels on the service, nor what cargoes may be shipped, were released.
