FedEx Express said it is pushing back the opening of its Asia hub in Guangzhou, China until the first half of 2009.
The hub, located near Guangzhou's Baiyun Airport, was originally scheduled to open by the end of 2008, but has been delayed for undisclosed reasons. It will be FedEx's biggest such facility outside the United States, with the ability to sort up to 24,000 packages per hour when operations start. Plans for the hub were initially drawn up in 2005.
"The revised operations date provides FedEx with the necessary time to fully test all systems and processes, as well as work closely with the Guangzhou authorities to ensure all necessary approvals are in place," FedEx Corp. said in a statement.
