South American freight airline Tampa Cargo is considering direct all-cargo flights between Colombia and Europe, airline industry officials said Friday.
European Cargo Services, a general sales agent for airlines, disclosed the potential service in announcing Medellin-based Tampa awarded ECS a contract to represent the airline in Europe and in Dubai. ECS said it expects to generate 10,000 tonnes of cargo a year for the airline.
ECS will first start marketing Tampa Cargo’s 767 freighter Central and South America network in Europe through connections with flights operating by Colombian passenger airline Avianca out of Barcelona and Madrid.
“ECS has committed to build our presence in Europe ahead of the launch of direct flights and establish a link with other markets in Asia and Africa," said Carlos Arango, Tampa Cargo's commercial director for North America.
Based in Colombia, Tampa Cargo operates its flights through a hub at Miami International Airport.
