Five Somali pirates were captured after they mistook a French naval ship for a cargo vessel. The pirates were repelled in a night attack on the French refueling vessel La Somme, which is serving as the command ship for French forces in the Indian Ocean.
In the dark, the pirates apparently thought the ship was a commercial vessel, the French military said. They arrived in two skiffs firing automatic weapons but quickly fled once they realized their error. The naval ship gave chase and captured one of the skiffs.
