Chilean flagship carrier LAN Airlines is expanding existing Brazilian cargo operations, reported Dow Jones Newswires.
With its Brazilian partner ABSA, LAN began cargo operations from Sao Paulo to the Brazilian cities of Recife and Fortaleza in June.
Cargo traffic was up 37.9 percent in the second quarter, compared to the same period last year, while cargo revenue increased 60.3 percent to US$322 million in the second quarter, largely on its expanded operations in Brazil.
Higher revenues stemmed from an expansion in import markets, especially in Brazil, which has made up a significant portion of inflows this year.
