Hong Kong Airlines (HKA) has begun hiring cargo staff at Brussels Airport ahead of the launch of its A330-200 freighter service to the Belgian capital from Hong Kong via Delhi this autumn.
A spokesman for HKA said that the company planned to operate an initial programme of three weekly frequencies on the route, with departures from Hong Kong on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
“We can’t announce a firm launch date at this stage, but it will be some time in the final quarter of the year,” the spokesman said.
Brussels is already served from Hong Kong by freighter by Cathay Pacific Airways.
HK Airlines took delivery of the first of an order of three A330s from Airbus this month. The aircraft is set to be deployed on routes from Hong Kong to Shanghai and Singapore.
A second of the type is scheduled to join the fleet towards the end of next month and is earmarked to operate the Brussels route.
With the arrival of the third A330F in mid-2011, the freighter service to Europe could be upgraded to six-times weekly or even daily, the spokesman added.
