Galaxy Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus A300-600F freighter in Toulouse, France. This adds to the carrier’s existing converted A300-600F, which has been in operation since end-October.
Galaxy Airlines is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan-based Sagawa Express. The acquisition of its own freighter will enable Sagawa to offer lower rates than those of existing air transport services, while promising a next-day delivery service to distant destinations to and from Tokyo.
Galaxy's A300-600F has a payload capacity of 48 tonnes of cargo, with a range of up to 4,900 km. It is one of the industry's best-selling freighter types in this class, with a total of 103 orders and commitments received from customers including UPS, FedEx and Air Hong Kong.
