India’s newest and largest container terminal, the 1.3-million-TEU capacity Gateway Terminals at Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai, was opened Thursday, six months ahead of schedule.
Gateway Terminals is a joint venture between APM Terminals of the Danish A.P. Moller-Maersk Group and the Indian government’s Container Corp. of India Ltd (CONCOR), the largest provider of containerized rail transport in the country.
“Our ambition was to design and build a container terminal operating with the most modern equipment and IT systems to serve the leading container ship lines with best-in-class service,” said Kim Fejfer, APM’s chief executive officer.
