Maersk Line to Modify India-US Loops

Maersk Line is upgrading its MECL1 and MECL2 services, which connect the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and the U.S. East Coast. The changes include new port calls at Algeciras and Savannah on the MECL1. In addition, the MECL2 is discontinuing its existing call at Norfolk, to be replaced with Miami. The new MECL1 port coverage is as follows: Westbound: Jebel Ali, Karachi, Pipavav, Jawaharlal Nehru (Nhava Sheva), Salalah, Algeciras, Newark, Charleston, Savannah and Norfolk, commencing from Jebel Ali on May 4. Eastbound: Charleston, Savannah, Norfolk, Newark, Algeciras, Jebel Ali, Karachi, Pipavav and Jawaharlal Nehru (Nhava Sheva), commencing from Charleston on June 2. The revised MECL2 port coverage is as follows: Westbound: Colombo, Salalah, Jeddah, Aqaba, Port Said, Algeciras, Newark, Savannah, Houston and Miami, starting from Colombo on May 15. Eastbound: Houston, Miami, Algeciras, Port Said, Djibouti, Jebel Ali and Colombo, starting from Houston on June 19. The Danish container carrier is also planning to upgrade the two services with bigger ships to replace the existing fleet of 4,800-TEU vessels. The Journal of Commerce
