Cargolux will introduce a weekly 747 freighter service to Vienna beginning Saturday. The new stopover in Austria’s capital is an extension of the existing Saturday flight from Hanoi, Vietnam and Hong Kong.
With Cargolux flight CV6716, Vienna International Airport will see the first ever landing of a Boeing 747-8 freighter.
Both Hanoi and Hong Kong are home to major production centers for the electronics industry, and Cargolux expects this commodity to heavily use the Vienna route.
Vienna Airport, a traditional east-west cargo transfer point, has reported handling 60,036 tonnes of cargo for the first quarter of 2013. The airport’s revenues grew by about 5 percent in the same period.
Vienna is also an important gateway to Eastern European destinations for Cargolux. The airport offers round-the-clock operations without curfew and 24-hour cargo handling facilities.
