OOCL has christened a new 13,208-TEU vessel on Geoje Island in South Korea.
Leased to NYK Line, the mega-ship was named by Harriet Tung, wife of C.C. Tung, chairman of OOCL, as the NYK Hyperion. It is the eighth of 10 13,208-TEU sized container ships ordered by OOCL from Samsung Heavy Industries. Its overall length is about 366.5 meters (approximately 1,202 feet) and 48.2 meters wide, with deadweight tonnage of about 143,521 metric tons.
The NYK Hyperion will be serving the Asia-to-Europe trade on Loop 7 with the following port rotation: Qingdao, China; Shanghai; Hong Kong; Yantian, China; Singapore; Salalah, Oman; Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Hamburg, Germany; Southampton, England; Singapore; Yantian; and Qingdao. The service, which will transit via Suez Canal, has a roundtrip time of 77 days.
