11/22/2007 10:19:03 AM

Qingdao, a coastal city of Shandong Province, east China, is expected to build an international logistics center in Northeast Asia by 2012.

The city plans to establish three comprehensive logistics centres and nine professional logistics bases by 2012.

The modern logistics' added value is estimated to increase yearly 17 percent to US$8.09 billion, accounting for 25 percent of the modern service industry of the city and 12 percent of the total production value. The total logistics cost will take 16 percent of the total production value.

The city's port throughput is forecast to exceed 330 million tonnes by 2012, and container throughput 14.5 million TEUs. Its cargo and mail throughput and total logistics handling capacity will hit 200,000 and 1.1 million tonnes, respectively.

The three comprehensive logistics centres are the Qianwan Port Logistics Centre, the Airport Logistics Centre, and the Land Comprehensive Logistics Centre in Jiaozhou Bay.
