Movement of containers to and from Cochin Port has come to a standstill in the past three days due to a flash strike by container trailer workers following an altercation with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, United News of India reported.
Talks initiated by the Regional Labour Commissioner to break the deadlock failed with the container trailer workers demanding action against the CISF personnel who physically attacked the workers.
According to port sources, nearly 300 export containers are stranded outside the terminal.
Cochin Port Management (CPT) officials protested against workers going on flash strikes over every small dispute.
Just last month, container lorry drivers and crew went on a strike over the issue of long waiting periods for offloading containers at the terminal.
