12/13/2008 9:33:00 AM

Several Taiwanese ships and a Chinese ship will sail from Keelung, Kaohsiung, and Taichung harbours towards Chinese ports directly on December 15, heralding the inauguration of direct cross-Taiwan Strait navigation link, Taiwan Economic News Service reported.

Taiwanese ships will set sail directly towards Chinese ports from Keeling and Kaohsiung, following celebration ceremonies. A ship of China’s Huarong Marine will also take part in the ceremony in Keelung for a return voyage, sailing directly towards Taicang, the largest port of Yangtze River. A similar ceremony will also take place at Taichung Harbour.

Yang Ming has applied to ply the Shanghai/central China route and northern China route with two 1,500 TEU container ships, while Wan Hai will ply the four routes destined for Xiamen, northern China, Shanghai, and Fuzhou, respectively. Evergreen will ply the route for Tianjin and Dalian.
