Two Portuguese opposition parties have urged the government to overturn a decision to expand a container port in Lisbon because of what they said was a lack of transparency, Reuters reported.
In an unusual alliance, the centre-right Social Democratic Party and the Communist Party both voiced their opposition in parliament, where the ruling Socialists have a majority.
The government approved in August an investment plan of US$510.7 million to expand the Alcantara terminal, which will be built and operated by Mota Engil, Portugal's largest construction company.
Mota holds 84 percent of the container terminal and the remainder is held by German container company Eurogate, a joint-venture between Eurokai and BLG Logistics Group.
