The Bahrain Gateway, at Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Hidd, is to be officially launched in March next year, Gulf Daily News reported.
APM Terminals Bahrain, which has been awarded the contract to run the new port, has invested US$62 million in land facilities, including state-of-the-art equipment.
The new port will have a capacity of 1.1 million TEUs. The total area is 900,000 square metres, and the quay depth is 15 metres.
The biggest attraction at the new port is four Post Panamax cranes of 61 metres.
The port aims to position itself as the hub for upper Middle East Gulf cargoes.
