Maersk Line said it’s starting a new service that will carry both intra-European cargo and feeder cargo from services around the world.
The EUROMED service will begin with a voyage by the Maersk Buton on Jan. 5 in Ashdod, Israel.
The port rotation is: Bremerhaven, Germany; Tangier, Morocco; Gioia Tauro, Italy; Alexandria, Egypt; Ashdod; Valencia, Spain; Felixstowe, U.K.; Rotterdam; and Bremerhaven.
Maersk said the new service “optimizes the existing networks” and “will cater for the combined reefer flows from South America, North America, as well as intra Europe flows into one single rotation.” The carrier also noted that the northbound sailing will call Alexandria and Ashdod “and thus bring a unique and innovative solution to this important reefer market.”
Four vessels with 2,200 TEUs of capacity allow for “efficiency through size and ability to operate at an economical speed,” the company said.
