December 30 2008, in the prompt atmosphere of the end- days of the year, Saigon Newport Company jubilantly celebrated the two millionth TEU through Tan Cang-Cat Lai port. This is a very impressive handling volume of the leading container port in Vietnam and it has proved the position of Tan Cang-Cat Lai port - one among the Top fifty container ports in the world according to the classification of the Cargo System.
After the General Director Nguyen Dang Nghiem ordered the handling of the two millionth TEU, the outbound laden container was loaded on the vessel Hansa Centaur of Wan Hay Lines (Taiwan) – voyage - N165. All the management board and staffs of Saigon Newport have witnessed this event hearteningly. In the situation of the world and domestic economic difficulties, the import-export cargo through the ports has gone down dramatically in the last months of the year, Saigon Newport has made its best efforts to reach 2 million TEUs (equivalent to 27 million tons of cargo) in 2008. This event has marked a milestone in the history of 19-year establishment & development of SNP and once more affirmed its leading position in the port operation in Vietnam.
In 2008, Saigon Newport Company has seen a 17.5% increase in revenue to about 3,000 billion VND, delivered to the national budget about 200 billion VND, successfully fulfilled 2008 financial plan. Company’s contribution to social activities is more than 7 billion VND.
With the market share of over 65% of import-export container volume through the ports of southern provinces and over 42% nationwide, the receipt/ delivery and vessel dispatch activities at Tan Cang-Cat Lai port have played an important role in the import-export trade of the Southern provinces and the national economy. Tan Cang-Cat Lai port is the biggest and most modern container port in Vietnam with the state-of-art CY and shipside handling equipment as well as the hardware and software system for the port operation and management. Tan Cang-Cat Lai port can be compared to the modern container ports in the region and the world. The Newport pilot under Saigon Newport Company was established in the early of December 2008 aiming at providing more favorable conditions for the vessels coming to/from SNP’s ports. Saigon Newport has continuously improved the service quality with the determination to dispatch the vessels rapidly and minimization of the receipt/ delivery time, which is highly appreciated by the shipping lines and clients. The two millionth TEU through Tan Cang - Cat Lai port is a meaningful present for all the management and staff of SNP on the New Year.
