The Philippines should work hard to enhance its supply chain by improving its information technology network and logistics, according to an industry expert, BusinessWorld reported.
Victor Fung, chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce and Li and Fung Group, said the Internet allows small companies to tap global markets.
"If small and medium enterprises can't access the Web, then they actually don't have an entry ticket in the global supply chain," he said on the sidelines of a value chain seminar.
Logistics, which includes an efficient port and other transportation infrastructure, should also be improved to enhance the distribution of goods, he pointed out.
Logistics is particularly challenging for an archipelago like the Philippines.
"If you manufacture down in Mindanao, you will have trouble with getting your goods out in the global market," he pointed out. He added that the government should focus on infrastructure development to facilitate the movement of goods.
