Swire service uses Cape of Good Hope

6/16/2009 9:34:15 AM

Swire Shipping's Eastabout Round the World monthly multipurpose service earlier this year ceased to return to North America from South East Asia via the South Pacific islands and Panama, according to research by American Shipper sister company ComPair Data.

Swire confirmed to ComPair Data researcher Edward Howard that although it’s still called the Eastabout Round the World Service, its ships now double-back via the Cape of Good Hope, sailing directly from Singapore and Jakarta to East Coast North America.

The service has a rotation of New Orleans, Freeport, Houston, St. John, Camden, Leghorn, Jeddah, Gizan, Dammam, Jebel Ali, Nhava Sheva, Singapore, Jakarta, Camden and New Orleans.

The service is operated with four multipurpose ships capable of carrying 1,800 TEUs.
