Import containers are piling up at Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta as truckers and importers slowly return to work after the long Muslim holidays.
Import container yard occupancy ratio (YOR) at Koja Container Terminal has reached 102 percent, at Mandiri Alam Lestari (MAL) Container Terminal touched 103.7 percent, and at Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) surpassed 87 percent, Bisnis Indonesia reported.
To deal with the high yard occupancy ratio, the operator of Tanjung Priok port is using export container areas.
It is believed the situation in Priok would return to normal next week.
Paul Krisnadhi, general manager of PT Mustika Alam Lestari (MAL), one of the terminal operators in Tanjung Priok, said the congestion might last for the next three weeks.
