On November 10th 2009, the management and staffs of Saigon Newport Company solemnly celebrated the Celebration of the 2 millionth Teu handled at Tan Cang- Cat Lai Terminal.
In the situation of the world financial and economic recession and the volume of import-export cargo through the port in Vietnam has decreased sharply, 2 million teu (equivalent to 28 million tons of cargo through Tan Cang- Cat Lai terminal) in the early of November 2009 has been an impressive event. This event once again affirms the stable development of Saigon Newport Company- the leading container terminal operator of Việt Nam.
After the General Director Nguyen Dang Nghiem and Mr. Jeff Lo- Chief Representative of Wanhai in Vietnam ordered the handling of the 2 millionth Teu, the outbound laden container was loaded on the vessel Wanhai 202 - voyage N280.
The year 2009 has marked meaningful milestone for Saigon Newport. In March 2009, SNP celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the establishment. In June 2009, The Tan Cang- Cai Mep deep sea container terminal of SNP welcomed the first call of the mother vessel. In August 2009, Cang- Long Binh ICD in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province organized the Opnening ceremony and Announcement of the customs clearance point in Tan Cang- Long Binh ICD. The Newport Pilot has made fruitful achievement after one year operational and highly appreciated by the shipping lines thanks to its good service quality. The aforementioned events has expressed the determination of Saigon Newport in creating the perfect logistic network aiming at providing the package services and facilitating customers in delivering/ receiving the cargoes at SNP’s premises.
The year 2009 started with many difficulties when the main cargo through port like garment products, rubber, furniture decreased dramatically. With the motto “ traveling together with customers, sharing to make the success together”– Saigon Newport has deployed the solutions to enhance the service quality as well as applied the incentive and favorable policies to the shipping lines and customers. The SNP’s target is to provide the best service quality with the most reasonable prices and help the customers to save cost. Thanks to the service quality and flexible policies, Saigon Newport has attracted more shipping lines and customers for their cargo receipt/delivery. The volume only went down in the first Quarter and went up impressively in the second and third quarters. The container handled at Tan Cang - Cat Lai terminal has increased 14.9%. The SNP has made a year on year increase of 18.7 % at both Tan Cang- Cat Lai and Tan Cang Cai Mep terminals . The market share of SNP which was 66% of HCM city area and 42% nationwide in 2008 has gone up to 82% and 50 % respectively, affirming the brandname and prestigue of a leading container operator in Vietnam.
