Evergreen Line has announced another rate increase on all westbound cargo moving from the Far East, Japan and the Indian subcontinent to Europe and the Mediterranean.
The new increase of $250 per 20-foot container will take effect on Feb. 1 on all cargoes and commodities, including temperature-controlled and reefer freight.
The increase, which Evergreen said was a further step in its “rate restoration program,” follows its Nov. 1 rate increase of $200 per TEU on the same trade lane.
Carriers have been increasing rates on the Asia-Europe trade since last fall to stem the losses they suffered last winter in the wake of a fierce rate war that resulted in several smaller carriers pulling out of the trade altogether.
