CMA CGM Boosts Rates on Multiple Lanes

Taking advantage of the up-tick in demand for shipping capacity since last fall, CMA CGM has announced that it is increasing freight rates on 11 different trade lanes on March 15 and April 1.

 

The trade lanes and the rate increases are as follows:

 

As of March 15, the French carrier boosted rates on all types of eastbound cargo from Vancouver to Asia by $160 per 20-foot equivalent unit and $200 per 40-foot equivalent unit.

 

All of the other increases will take effect on April 1 on the following trade lanes.

 

Rates on dry cargo shipped from Europe to India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will go up by $100 per TEU and $200 per FEU and 40-foot high-cube. In addition the French line will impose an overweight surcharge of $120 per TEU for containers of dry cargo weighing over 21 tons, including the weight of the container.

 

Rates on all types of cargo shipped from Europe to the Indian Ocean Islands (La Réunion, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mayotte, Seychelles and Comoros) will increase by $250 per TEU.

 

Rates on all types of cargo from all origins (excluding Europe) to the Indian Ocean Islands (La Réunion, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mayotte, Seychelles and Comoros) will increase by $350 per TEU.

 

Rates on refrigerated cargo shipped from the East Coast of South America to all destinations will increase by $250 per reefer.

 

Rates on all types of cargo shipped from the U.S. East, Gulf and West Coasts to the Western Mediterranean, Eastern Mediterranean, the Adriatic, the Black Sea and North Africa will increase by $150 per TEU and $250 per FEU.

 

Rates on all types of cargo shipped from the U.S. East, Gulf and West Coasts to Europe, the Baltic, Scandinavia, the United Kingdom and Ireland will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU.

 

Rates on all types of cargo shipped from North Europe to the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU.

 

Rates on all types of cargo shipped from the Port of Halifax in Canada to Cuba, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand will go up by $150 per TEU and $250 per FEU.

 

Rates on dry and refrigerated cargo shipped from Halifax to all Caribbean and Latin America ports will increase by $150 per TEU dry and reefer and $250 per FEU dry and reefer.

 

Finally, rates on dry and refrigerated cargo shipped from New York/New Jersey, Savannah and Houston to all Caribbean and Latin America ports will increase by $100 per TEU dry and reefer and $250 per FEU dry, high cube and reefer.
