Safmarine has added Sharjah to its Masiika Express service; MOL has announced plans to upgrade its Japan - Russia route to a weekly service and add a new transhipment service.
Regional shipping line Safmarine has enhanced its Masiika Express service between the Arabian Persian Gulf and East Africa with the addition of a direct call at the UAE port of Sharjah.
Sharjah is currently served via a feeder to Jebel Ali.
Effective June 9th, the upgraded Masiika Express service will provide direct access to the East African ports of Dar es Salaam and Mombasa.
Capacity will not be increased and the service is a joint Safmarine - Maersk Line service.
The service will continue to deploy its current fleet of 2,500 TEU vessels on the following revised port rotation: Sharjah > Jebel Ali > Salalah > Dar Es Salaam > Mombasa > Salalah > Sharjah.
Mitsui OSK Lines has announced plans to upgrade its Japan - Russia route, the Japan Trans Siberian Line (JTSL), which is jointly operated by MOL and Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) from bi-weekly to weekly sailings.
Along with the direct service, in mid-June the companies will launch a new Busan transhipment service to connect Japan and Russia.
MOL and FESCO will launch transhipment service in Busan to connect Japan and Russia, using MOL cargo space between Japan and South Korea (in addition to commercial feeder services) and FESCO's Korea-Soviet Direct Line service between South Korea and Russia. This will cover the existing direct-service schedule (every other week) and allow weekly service on the Japan-Russia route.
South Korea - Russia route: 1,200 TEU vessel calling at Busan > Vostochny > Vladivostok > Busan.
Effective July 12th, the JTSL port rotation will be : Yokohama > Nagoya > Kobe > Moji > Toyama > Vostochny > Vladivostok.
