Baltimore sets container record in July

10/4/2010 10:14:10 AM

The Port of Baltimore’s public marine terminals handled a record number of containers in July, the most recent month for which official statistics are available.

The port handled 63,740 TEUs, breaking a record set one month earlier in June, when the port handled 57,277 TEUs containers. The previous record was 56,454 set in July 2005. The port said volume has been helped by deals cemented in 2008 with shipping lines Mediterranean Shipping Co. and Evergreen.

2010 general cargo tonnage through August is up 11 percent over the same period in 2009.
