Mediterranean Shipping Co. will raise rates for container transport from Asia to the U.S. on Dec. 15, part of an overhaul of general rates and bunker surcharges the carrier is imposing across a range of trade lanes around the world.
MSC will implement a general rate increase on all containers it transports from Asia and Southeast Asia to the U.S. West and East Coasts as of Dec. 15.
The increases in rates for containers it transports from Asia to the U.S. East Coast ports and to U.S. intermodal points moving through or via U.S. East Coast ports are $640 per 20-foot dry container; $800 per 40-foot dry container and $900 per 40-foot high-cube container.
The increases in rates on containers it moves from Asia to U.S. West Coast ports and to U.S. intermodal points moving through or via U.S. West Coast ports are $480 per 20-foot dry container; $600 per 40-foot dry container; and $675 per 40-foot high-cube container.
Europe-South America Surcharges
MSC will impose bunker surcharges on containers moving between North Europe and the Mediterranean and Venezuela, Central America and the west coast of South America as of Dec. 1.
It also announced a winter surcharge of $75 per 20-foot equivalent unit on all cargo moving in both directions between St. Petersburg and ports in Central America and on the west coast of South America from Dec. 1 to March 31.
The bunker surcharges on cargo moving from ports in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean to the west coast of South America will be $470 per 20-foot equivalent container unit for dry containers and $545 per TEU for reefers.
The surcharge on cargo transport from the west coast of South America to Northern Europe and the Mediterranean or transshipped from there will be $700 per dry TEU and $800 per TEU for reefers.
The surcharges on cargo from ports in Northern Europe to Central America and Venezuela will be $400 per dry TEU and $500 per TEU for reefers.
The surcharges for cargo from ports in Central America and Venezuela to Northern Europe and the Mediterranean or transshipped form those ports will be $400 per dry TEU and $500 per TEU for reefers.
Southeast Asia-Australasia Bunker Surcharge
Other trade lanes will see additional surcharges starting in December.
