The first foreign ship to arrive at Sendai-Shiogama port in Miyagi Prefecture since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami will dock tomorrow, reported Kyodo.
A Panama-flagged vessel will haul about 10,000 tonnes of coal to the largest port complex in northeastern Japan, after which a container ship on June 8 will be the first to leave the port after the disaster, carrying automobile tyres to the port of Tokyo before their shipment abroad.
The prefecture says it has checked the radiation levels in the atmosphere and waters around the port located chiefly in Sendai, the prefectural capital, and has confirmed them to be safe.
