In January, the Grand Alliance of liner shipping companies will resume calling Sendai, Japan eastbound on its weekly transpacific loop SCX.
This will be the first time since early May the port, situated north of Tokyo, will admit a deepsea container service. It bore the full force of Japan's earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
The SCX will have a revised rotation of Cai Mep, Laem Chabang, Singapore, Kobe, Nagoya, Tokyo, Sendai, Los Angeles, Oakland, Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Kaohsiung, Shekou, and Cai Mep. Maersk Line takes slots on the loop but only between Laem Chabang and Los Angeles.
The Grand Alliance comprises Japan-based NYK, Hong Kong-based OOCL and Hapag-Lloyd of Germany. The SCX is operated with eight vessels, all provided by alliance member NYK, with an average capacity of 6,396 TEUs.
The inaugural call at Sendai for the SCX will be made by the NYK Argus, arriving Jan. 22.
