Emirates Airline plans to start non-stop service to Washington DC in September, part of the Dubai-based carrier's global expansion plans that include a big push in the US, reported Dow Jones Newswires.
The new Washington route, the carrier's seventh in the US, had been widely anticipated by observers. It is also the third US route introduced by Emirates this year. The airline's existing US services include flights to New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth and Seattle.
The US market remains a relative weak spot for Emirates, which in the 27 years since its start has grown into the world's largest airline by international traffic.
Emirates expects to add three or four more US routes over the next few years.
