THE Port Angeles recorded its best monthly performance in two years since August 2010, experiencing a 5.57 per cent year-on-year growth in overall container volumes in September.
Imports in September rose 3.38 per cent to 385,250 TEU from 372,655 TEU in the same month last year. But exports shrank 2.56 per cent to 172,432 TEU in September from 176,954 TEU a year ago.
The total of laden container imports and exports were up 1.47 per cent to 557,683 TEU in September from 549,609 TEU last September. But the port also recorded a 20.01 per cent year-on-year increase in empties.
Overall September 2012 volumes reached 744,923 TEU, up 5.57 per cent against last September's 705,623 TEU. It was the strongest single-month performance since August 2010, when overall volumes reached 763,837 TEU.
From January to September, overall container volumes reached 6,188,172 TEU, up 5.16 per cent compared to the volumes of 5,884,347 TEU recorded in the same period last year.
