Hamburg Sud to Offer Expanded Americas Service

German ocean shipping company Hamburg Sud will launch a direct liner service between North America, Central America and South America on Jan. 1, replacing the current Cartagena-California service.   The shipping line will deploy five 1,850 20-foot-equivalent unit vessels, including reefer plugs.   The rotation will include Guayaquil, Ecuador; Balboa, Panama; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; Los Angeles; Oakland, Calif.; Manzanillo, Mexico; and Paita, Peru.   The first sailings will be from Guayaquil on Jan. 4, 2013, and from Los Angeles on Jan. 20, 2013, with the Cap Palliser vessel.   The Journal of Commerce
