Cargolux has launched weekly freighter service between Atlanta and Munich, routed through Luxembourg, on a Boeing 747-400 freighter. It serves as the carrier’s first regular airfreight service to and from Munich.
International freight forwarding company Senator International Spedition will serve as Cargolux’s main import customer. According to officials, most of these imports will originate in Asia and the U.S., with Munich serving as a cargo consolidation point for goods flying elsewhere on the network.
Michael Kerkloh, president of Munich Airport’s operating company, views the Cargolux service as the potential start of expanded air cargo activities at the airport.
“Every day, goods originating in Bavaria, other parts of southern Germany, Austria, eastern Europe and northern Italy are flown from our airport to destinations all over the world,” he said in a statement. “We're looking forward to working together in the coming years with companies like Cargolux on the continuing development of Munich Airport as a cargo hub.”
