IAG Cargo announced that it will be able to offer 40 percent more freight capacity between London and Rio de Janeiro due to an increase in the frequency of British Airways passenger flights from April.
Beginning Oct. 28, the route will be serviced daily by a Boeing 777-300ER, replacing the 777-200 now servicing the route.
The new flight brings the weekly total on the Rio de Janeiro route to seven frequencies. This will allow IAG Cargo customers to ship an increased weight of cargo, with an additional available capacity of 42 tonnes per week.
Rio de Janeiro and Latin America are important growth markets for IAG Cargo. In 2012, the London-Rio de Janeiro route generated 2,759 tonnes of cargo.
IAG Cargo operates 30 flights per day from Latin America, equating to more than 150 tonnes shipped from the area every day.
