Major container lines have announced planned rate increases for a variety of trades, as detailed below, slated to take effect in October and November.
North America-South America
CMA CGM intends to hike rates on its trade from U.S. Gulf Coast ports to Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Peru, starting Oct. 15. The hike will be $100 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container.
Asia-North America
CMA CGM is looking to increase rates on shipments from Asia and the Indian subcontinent to the U.S. via West Coast, East Coast and Gulf Coast ports of discharge, starting Oct. 15. The increase will be $320 per 20-foot container, $400 per 40-foot container, $450 per 40-foot high-cube container, $510 per 45-foot container and $640 per 53-foot container.
Asia-South America
Cosco Container Lines aims to raise rates on shipments from the Far East to South America’s east coast, starting Oct. 15. The hike will be $650 per 20-foot container and $1,300 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container.
Asia-Europe
Mediterranean Shipping Co. has postponed a scheduled rate hike on its trade from Europe to the Far East from Oct. 1 to Oct. 15. The increase will be $200 per 20-foot and 40-foot container.
Beginning Nov. 1, OOCL intends to boost rates on westbound traffic from the Far East, excluding Japan, to North Europe, the Mediterranean and Black Sea by $975 per TEU.
Asia-Australia
OOCL aims to increase rates for all shipments, including refrigerated cargo, on its trade from Hong Kong, Macau and South China to Australia, by $400 per 20-foot container and $800 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container. The hike will take effect on Oct. 24.
Asia-Africa
Emirates Shipping Line plans to hike rates on its westbound trade from the Far East and Southeast Asia to East Africa by $200 per TEU, effective Oct. 15.
Surcharges
On Oct. 1, CMA CGM intends to implement a bunker adjustment factor on trade between the U.S. and the Far East and Indian subcontinent. For cargo to the U.S. West Coast, the surcharge will be $424 per 20-foot container, $530 per 40-foot container, $597 per 40-foot high-cube container, $671 per 45-foot container and $848 per 53-foot container. For cargo to the U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast, the surcharge will be $780 per 20-foot container, $975 per 40-foot container, $1,097 per 40-foot high-cube container and $1,235 per 45-foot container.
The container line also plans to implement a peak season surcharge of $150 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container for all exports from the U.S. and Canada to the Caribbean, effective Oct. 6 until Dec. 31.
