In a challenging market environment, Lufthansa Cargo flew with fuller aircraft in the first nine months of the year. The cargo airline increased the load factor of its aircraft to 69.3 percent.
The tonnage of freight and mail transported fell slightly in the first three quarters by 2.2 per cent. Lufthansa Cargo transported a total of around 1.3 million tonnes of air freight.
The airline originally expected demand to increase greatly in autumn of this year. The company met the situation in global air freight markets, which continued to be challenging, with flexible capacity management, thereby boosting its load factor.
Lufthansa Cargo is one of the few cargo airlines to make targeted investments in new aircraft, modern technologies and its route network, even in the current market environment. As a result, the company is prepared for all market developments, even a long-anticipated upswing in demand, stressed executive board chairman and CEO Karl Ulrich Garnadt.
