CMA CGM begins calling at new Polish terminal

6/18/2007 10:20:24 AM

CMA CGM has become the first of the top 10 global container shipping lines to call at the new DCT Gdansk terminal in Poland with the arrival of its 1,400-TEU feeder Cape Fulmar.

The Cape Fulmar is now expected to make regular calls at DCT Gdansk on her weekly schedule that links four container terminals in Hamburg with Gdynia, Klaipeda and now DCT Gdansk.

DCT Gdansk general manager Fred Kamperman said the Cape Fulmar discharged 27 TEU plus steel shipments from Xiamen and six FEU, as well as loading two FEU.

"CMA CGM said they would be first; they have been very supportive, even lending us containers for training purposes, and now we are on their FAS Baltic Poland schedule," said Mr Kamperman.

Roman Lysik, managing director, PZKB, general agent for the CMA CGM group in Poland, said: "I am personally extremely happy to see CMA CGM being the very first deep sea carrier at DCT Gdansk."

The next phase of Gdansk North Port's development will involve construction of a logistics park next to the terminal, which is expected to benefit the local economies of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot.
