AADA to impose peak season surcharge from August

7/6/2007 2:35:22 PM

SHIPPING lines participating in the Asia Australia Discussion Agreement (AADA) have announced they will levy a peak season surcharge (PSS) from the beginning of next month to maintain high service standards.

A statement issued on behalf of members said the PSS is "necessary to assist carriers to recover in part the extra cost incurred due to upsurge of cargo movement."

From August 1, outbound shipments originating in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan destined for ports and points in Australia will be subject to a PSS of US$250 per TEU and PSS of $500/FEU on top of the ocean freight rate.

AADA is a voluntary discussion forum of 13 ocean carriers servicing the trade from north and east Asia to Australia. The members are: ANL Singapore, China Shipping Container Line (HK), Cosco Container line, Hamburg Sud, Hanjin Shipping, "K" Line, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Maersk Line, MSC, MOL, NYK Line, OOCL, and Gold Star Line (HK).
