CHINA Southern Airlines recently launched a new truck-air intermodal service in the eastern China region following its success of a same service in south China, Xinhua reported.
With the new service, the highway network in eastern China will be connected with the air network of Shanghai, making Shanghai a transit hub for domestic trade cargo from the eastern and other parts of the country, the report said.
At present, the service is only open to domestic cargo, but China Southern will introduce it to foreign cargo by connecting the highway network with Shanghai's international airfreight network soon, the report said.
China Southern currently operates more than 31 domestic services and 60 domestic flights a day in Shanghai, which cover South China, north eastern China, northern China, south western China and north western China.
