The global freight forwarder Damco expects double digit growth for its ocean, airfreight and landside forwarding services in Vietnam and South East Asia over the next five years.
Damco Vietnam has several projects in the pipeline, including starting two new direct ‘Less-than-Container-Load” services into Europe and North America. In addition, Damco has teamed up with a leading insurance broker and insurer to offer comprehensive marine insurance packages, which will be soon offered in 2008.
Jens Wessel, Head of Damco for South East Asia said: “South East Asia is a key market for us. Based on the uptrend in customer sourcing patterns, we are optimistic about the developing opportunities in Vietnam.”
Damco has its own offices in key markets, staffed with local employees understanding the local market. In Vietnam, Damco currently has three offices in Ha Noi, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City.
Damco was born from the merger of Dutch freight forwarding company Damco Sea & Air and the forwarding activities of DSL Star Express of Maersk Logistics. Established in 1988, Damco Sea & Air was P&O Ned Lloyd’s forwarding arm. In 2005, the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group acquired Damco Sea & Air in connection with the acquisition of P&O Nedlloyd. Since 2001, Maersk Logistics has been providing ocean freight forwarding services, in addition to its supply chain management services, under the name “DSL Star Express”. Together with Maersk Logistics' air freight and landside services, DSL Star Express was renamed ‘Damco” on 1 July 2007.
Damco is part of the Copenhagen-based A.P. Moller – Maersk Group.
