Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi said that Italian carrier Alitalia will have a new partner by Christmas.
The board of Alitalia is expected to meet by the end of the month to look at recommendations made by financial adviser Citigroup on potential buyers for the Italian government's controlling stake in the airline.
The Italian government has been struggling to sell its 49.9 percent stake in Alitalia, for which the Italian airline has said potential suitors include Germany's Deutsche Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, and Air One, Italy's second-biggest carrier by number of passengers.
