Japan Post Service is to set up a 60:40 joint venture with local transport company Sankyu to expand its international air cargo business from July this year.
Under the terms of the deal, Sankyu will transfer its international air cargo operations to the joint venture. A Sankyu executive will be president of the as-yet unnamed new firm.
Japan Post Service already has linked its delivery network with networks in China and other parts of the world. The new firm intends to use those links to expand further, particularly with services aimed at retail consumers.
