German container line Hapag-Lloyd has named a 8,749-TEU capacity containership in the Port of Bremerhaven.
The 335-meter Bremen Express was built by South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries who will deliver another 15 sister ships to the Hamburg-based carrier by the end of 2011.
The new vessel will be deployed on one of the Grand Alliance's Asia/Europe services and will sail at about 20 knots instead of its maximum speed of 25 knots.
Hapag-Lloyd said its containership fleet now stands at 142 ships with a total capacity of over 514,000 TEUs, ranking it fifth in the world.
