Maersk Line will later this month add a ninth ship and reorder Savannah and New York (Newark) on its weekly U.S. East Coast/Mediterranean/Middle East/Indian subcontinent MECL2 service.
The revised service will use nine boxships averaging 4,960 TEUs on a port rotation of New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Algeciras, Gioia Tauro, Jeddah, Salalah, Colombo, Chennai, Colombo, Salalah, Jeddah Port Said, Algeciras, and back to New York.
"This will result in improved transit times to Newark from the South Indian market as well as a number of Mediterranean ports. The upgraded service will also provide our customers with increased schedule integrity and thereby offer improved reliability," the Danish mega-carrier said in a statement.
Maersk's sister company Safmarine Container Lines takes space on the MECL2.
